PRODUCING PSEUDO PP PRESENTATIONS

Basic Versions
This document provides an example of how to prepare a set of useful PseudoPowerPoint presentations documents based on LaTeX. These presentations are aimed at using a computer, or portable computer connected to a projector running at a resolution of 1024x768 (the resolution can be altered).

This package is not entirely in LaTeX and requires some basic understanding of unix, using scripts. The presentation slides make use of the xanim, whirlgif (for the gif version), and mpeg_play (for the enhanced jpg version) utilities to produce the slide show, hence are directly aimed at satisyfing the need for a suitable package in the Linux community, however the actual conversion for postscript to gif or jpg is done using the convert routines in ImageMagick package, and hence can be applied to any platform. Please review the man pages for xanim: The presentation is set up so that using the mouse, or the appropriate xanim control keys, the use can advance through the slide show. The gif and jpg images can be imported into StarOffice to create a slide show, or into Microsoft's Power Point for display.

The pppslides package is availabe in pppslides.tar.gzand it supports two slide output format for the presentation slides, gif and jpg. The jpg option produces jpg files, which are of slightly lower quality, however they take substantially less space, and on many computers with insufficient memory capacity will make a difference.

The documentation is basic, however it takes you through processing the documents by example (i.e., follow the README file, and compare the documents and scripts with the results). The packages require basic understanding of unix shell scripts, however a novice does not have to modify any of these.
